Westfield history
The car was originally a 1998 registered SEW built with a 1.6 Ford CVH engine. It apparently smashed into a barrier on a track day in 2001/2002 and an insurance claim saw it rebuilt with a new chassis and some replacement bodywork. At some time in the next couple of years it was upgraded with a Ferriday built 2.0 CVH. Allegedly it was driven into a tyre wall on its first track day with the new engine, resulting in damage to the nose, rad, wheelarch and one chassis strut. To settle some outstanding payments the engine was separated from the rest of the car and each went their own way to new owners.
The car was stripped and the nearside top strut professionally replaced. Not much more happened until 2005 when it was then sold onto a chap in Norfolk who bought it with the intention of rebuilding it into an "all-weather" car, i.e. to be driven, not polished. He (Jed) rebuilt it with an 1800 Zetec engine, various new parts, some used twin Weber 40 DCOE,s and Megajolt ignition. In this condition it passed an MOT and became road legal once again. Unfortunately Jed's circumstances changed and in March 2006 he replied to a wanted ad I had placed in the WSCC Boardroom for a budget project car. A quick trip to Norfolk, a bit of bargaining and it was mine.
Although it has had a chequered history (and anybody that can add to what I know, please contact me) I think I could see the potential. At the end of the day it's a 1998 car with a 2002 chassis, I'm only the third registered owner and it's hpi clear, never having been technically written off (although it probably came quite close...).
Since I've had it I've replaced the 1800 engine with a 2 litre Zetec (see specification notes). It's been repainted in a slightly more agreeable colour scheme, although still not to everyone's taste, and pretty much everything mechanical or electronic has been replaced and upgraded. It's now a decent example of a wide axle car. The future planned mods are a bit of trim work to tidy it up, plus the engine is all ready to take a Dunnell head and cams, which should see over 200 bhp but first it will need the back axle and gearbox strengthening.
Right now I think it's time to get on with driving it and meeting up with some of the guys from the local WSCC group.
